12 Note Mapper (Now called VirtuosoEar) is a software companion to the book "A Totally New Approach to Ear Training based on the 12 Note Solfege". With this software, your regular practice becomes an Ear Training session. Thus, it speeds up the progress and improves the effectiveness.

This prototype is equipped with the 12 Note Solfege Synthesizer utilizing sampling technologies. This was done to make our demonstration more appealing at the recent Cool Product Expo, but it is a desirable feature.

We learned that the prototype had a rather long latency. The latency is the time between a MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) signal and its response. The large latency makes the product unusable. We will work on this issue so that the next prototype has an acceptable latency. We do not know the timeline partly because we started working on an OS X version of VirtuosoEar. If it is easier to achieve the same goal under OS X, we might choose OS X as a primary platform for more real time MIDI based applications. Unfortunately, it is not easy to overcome the limitations imposed by the Operating System itself.
