Ear Training for Musicians - FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
We would like to answer some commonly asked questions here.

  • What is wrong with Relative Pitch Ear Training offered at a majority of private or music schools?

Everything has pros and cons. In a sense, there is nothing wrong. You simply get the expected result. What is the expected result, then? You hear every Major keys like C Major, and every Minor keys like A Minor. That is precisely what the Relative Pitch training will give you. And, you wonder why you do not get Absolute Pitch. It does not matter whether you have an ability or not. In a hundred years, you will still ask the same question. Relative Pitch is easier to introduce as discussed in the White Paper. But, that is the price you pay. By the way, we also use Relative Pitch. Part II of the book is supposed to cover the topic.

  • Can I really learn Absolute Pitch?

That is probably a subject for studies at universities. We simply say this. Even if you have an ability, you still need a training for it. Even if you do not possess such an ability, we doubt that, by the way, it is extremely important to know what real note(s) in absolute terms you are playing at any given moment. Ask any talented musicians. They will tell you right away. Shouldn't you be trained for that skill?

  • What is so unique about your method?

Aside from all the technical details discussed in the White Paper, it is the attitude. You actively participate in the process just like you acquired your native language. Sometimes you are so bogged down with the details, you are stressed out in the process. The system is simple enough for anyone to follow. If you continue, it will work. For example, VirtuosoEar is very intuitive. You are constantly reminded what note you have just played. This kind of instant feedback is not available with other methods. Please note that VirtuosoEar is a bit technically involved to set up at this moment.
